Save & Date is a utility for define back up in order to do them quickly.
Three types of back up are possible :
- Classical back up :
The file is copied in a folder named “Save&Date” in the folder you choose as the destination folder. If an older copy exists, it will be replaced after confirmation dialog. You have only one copy of the source file.
- Dated back up :
The source file is copied in a folder named like the source file in a “Save&Date” folder, itself in the destination folder.
A date is added to the name of the copy. You can choose the format of this date with the “Prefs” button. By default, the format is yymmdd-hhmm.
If the name of the source file contains the word “Folder”, it would be replaced by “F.” because the name of a file can’t exceed 31 characters.
For exemple for a file named “MyDiary”
Destination folder
Save&Date
MyDiary
MyDiary-020315-1505
MyDiary-020316-1151
MyDiary-020317-2215
So, you have several copies of the same file at different moments.
- Numbered version :
The file is duplicate and a number is added. If the file have none, “01” is added. This file is located in the same folder than the source file. So you have several versions of a same file and they can come along differently.
By default an alias is created on the desktop.
